The Ugandan public is excited by the news of the appointment of an accomplished Ugandan career woman, Hon. Winnie Karagwa Byanyima, as the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), a global organization which “leads and inspires the world to achieve its shared vision of zero new HIV infections, increasing access to treatment and ending AIDS-related deaths”.
Considering Uganda’s success in combating HIV/AIDS, thanks to the leadership of the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), President Yoweri Museveni, Hon. Byanyima’s appointment is a vote of confidence in our efforts and contribution to the collective global fight against the scourge. She will lead renewed efforts while flying Uganda’s flag high.
Special thanks to the Visionary National Chairman of NRM for endorsing her to take up the new job.
Byanyima is a former legislator and has been Executive Director of Oxfam before taking up her new posting.
We wish her the best in her new role!!
On the sideline, ONC wishes to urge everyone and especially Bazzukulu (National Chairman Museveni’s grandchildren) to stay clear of risky lifestyles that may expose them to HIV and AIDS. Recent reports suggest laxity due to the allure of life-saving ARVs. AIDS still has no cure!
